Steely Dan - Gaucho Outtakes (original)

This is a bootleg recording from the Gaucho sessions.

It includes "The Second Arrangement" which was accidentally erased, when an assistant engineer should prepare the tape for listening.

For unknown reasons he thought he was at the tail header instead of the beginning when he put all 24 channels on "record". When he discovered his mistake, three quarters of the tune was allready erased. Finally replaced by "Third World Man" on the "Gaucho" album.

God, I love these guys...I never get tired of listening to these songs...

I wonder if Don and Walter know this "boot" exists...and the story behind it!!

It's really hard to believe that Gaucho's drum track by Jeff was comprised of 40 or 60 edits(forget which)...if that performance was a full take it sounded flawless to me. Goes to show you how insane these guys are/were...

Listening to Babylon without drums made me want to jump behind the drums and GROOVE! Kinda hard to do at work, though...

The Gaucho demo with acoustic piano is incredibly beautiful. I actually like it better than the produced version, tape imperfections and all. I think the mark of a great song is when it sounds complete with only a piano/guitar and vocal.
